“Level 10 Life” is one of the many personal growth tactics out there, and one that thousands of people swear by. If you’re a Silk + Sonder member, you’re probably diligently tracking habits in your habit tracker, working to better understand your moods with your mood tracker, and gaining control of your financial wellbeing via your expense tracker.
Now you may be wondering: Should you add Level 10 Life to that list, too? Here’s everything you need to know about Level 10 Life to help you decide.
What is Level 10 Life?
Level 10 Life is a personal growth strategy that comes from Hal Elrod’s book, My Miracle Morning. The idea behind Level 10 Life is relatively simple: You pick 10 areas of your life where you want to measure success — relationships, health, and career are a few examples — and then create goals and plans that will help you bring those areas up to a “10.”
At its core, Level 10 Life is all about balance. It’s easy to get caught up in one area of our lives — career, for example — and neglect the others, so Level 10 Life helps remind us that all areas of our life are equally important.
How does Level 10 Life work?
The idea of bringing 10 areas of your life up to a “level 10” — in other words, the best they can be — might sound intimidating. Luckily, there’s a chart called a Level 10 Life Spread that will help guide you on your journey.
There are tons of different examples of spreads out there (and you should feel free to get creative with your chart!) but essentially, on one side of your spread you’ll write down the 10 areas of your life, and on the other side you’ll write down goals that will help you bring those areas up to a 10. As you work toward goals that will hopefully bring every area of your life up to a 10, you’ll color in your chart with a color that aligns with the area of your life you’re looking to improve. By the end of the process, all 10 areas will be fully colored in.
One thing to note as you work on your Level 10 Life Spread: It can be really overwhelming to strive for a 10 in all areas of your life, all the time. If you want to focus more on a few areas of your life one month (for example, it makes sense that you’d focus more on relationships than career during the holiday season), that’s great. You can think of Level 10 Life as a year-long process.
