Here are six easy ways to bring some self-care to your summer.
1. It's time to unplug…
While the intrigue of social media sometimes can feel overpowering, it is incredibly important to take a step back and allow yourself to experience life away from the screen. Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter will all be there when you return so go out and enjoy yourself! By removing the distractions and stressors that technology causes you are one step closer to reclaiming your mental health. Start focusing on your own life rather than the highlight reel of others sprawled across your screen. Mute the negativity and focus on accounts with shared beliefs and values. The most important element of self-care is… YOU! Set aside certain times during your day for periods of scrolling and then get back to living in the now.
2. Hit the beach!
Who doesn't love to feel the sand between their toes and the salt in their hair?! The therapeutic relief that a day by the ocean brings can be just what your mental health is craving. Leave your phone in the car and take a long walk down the shore. The beauty of nature is something that can be forgotten as stress and busy schedules control the week, but remembering to take time to focus on yourself can allow for some much needed outdoor activity.
3. Make time for your relationships
It 's easy to become swept up in the constant chaos of your weekly routines but don't forget to make time for those closest to you. Even though much of self-care obviously revolves around you, it is still incredibly important to nurture your relationships as they are a key component in a happy and healthy foundation. It can be as simple as taking a walk with a friend or checking out the latest hot spot in town with your significant other!
4. Relax, pamper yourself
Have a relaxing spa day at home or head out to your favorite retreat! Nothing cures a long week quite like a hot bath and a little TLC. Wash off the day, snuggle up with your favorite book or binge-worthy show and pour yourself a glass of wine. Spending quality time with yourself is a beneficial way to prevent burnouts, reduce stress levels and care for your mental health.
5. Create a plan
If you are constantly feeling overwhelmed and stressed by the craziness that is your weekly schedule, it's time to change your ways. Sit down with your Silk+Sonder planner and layout everything you need to accomplish for the day, week and month. Make time for weekly journaling and habit tracking to give your mental health the attention it deserves. You'll be one step closer to achieving your goals and relieving your stress!
